Live Again Divorce Recovery: Frequently Asked Questions

Why do we need a “women only” divorce video for Christians?

When a tragic divorce destroys a family, many Christians find their hopes and dreams shattered. For them, this is the greatest loss they have ever faced. It devastates them, and they desperately need emotional and spiritual help. They struggle with loneliness and shame. They need to face the pain and begin to forgive themselves and others in order to move forward in life.

Women need time to heal and get back on their feet. Live Again gives women the opportunity to hear how other godly women have experienced victory in Jesus in their own struggles with divorce recovery. This naturally gives them hope for their own healing and wholeness in Jesus.

Are there really that many divorced Christian women?

Three out of every ten women who are attending churches today are divorced. That means that there are at least 7 million divorced or separated women in our churches. But there are an additional 8 million women who do not attend church who are also divorced or separated. That means there is a total of over 15 million women who have or are currently experiencing divorce.

We don’t have anyone qualified to lead a women’s divorce recovery group. What do we do?

With the Live Again series the expertise is already provided by the professionals on the DVD. Each of the eight sessions has a 15-minute segment where an expert provides biblical principles and insights to be applied. There is also an introductory 15-minute segment in which a woman who has moved into wholeness after divorce shares her story.

In addition, the Leader Guide provides clear and concise directions on how to lead each session in discussion. The discussion is always around the topic in the video session which helps to keep the group focused on the issue and solutions.

Any church of any size can effectively use Live Again to minister to the women in their church and community by providing a safe place to discover hope for healing.

Our church is not big enough to have a group, but we do need to help individuals in need. What can we do?

With the flexible kit options, Live Again is perfect for any situation. Often, churches will purchase the Home Kit (less than $40) to give or lend to women in the midst of divorce or who are still facing on-going challenges. Pastors and leaders discover that the material provided in this kit can better meet the spiritual and emotional needs of these women.

Many churches use Live Again as a way to reach the community. With a total of almost 17 million women currently divorced in the U.S. there is a great need for the church to reach out to these hurting women with the message of hope and healing.

What is included in each of the 8 topics?

Each topic has a 30-minute video session that has two 15-minute segments. The first segment offers the story of a woman who has experienced healing and moved to wholeness. The second segment features an expert who provides biblical principles and guidance.

For people who want to get the most out of the video: the optional Participant Guide provides key points and reflective questions, action steps, a prayer and Bible promises.

The optional Leader Guide is designed to make it easy for small group leaders to tackle the discussion and keep it on course. It is a step-by-step guide for preparing for a group and is accompanied by a Checklist of items needed for each session. The Leader Guide also includes clearly defined timelines, reflection questions, and suggested prayers for ending a session.

What are the topics?

Each 30-minute session features women's stories and a licensed counselor's practical advice to provide a roadmap to follow.

SESSION 1: Reality Check: Acceptance

There are few things in life more devastating and earth-shattering than going through a divorce. Some women knew it was coming, making it no less painful. Others felt like they were hit by an oncoming train that came out of nowhere. This session focuses on how to survive the shock and trauma of this painful experience. The reality of a divorce is both overwhelming and unimaginable. It's so hard to process the idea you are no longer married. This session will help women move beyond the unbelief and despair of what they are facing and find not only acceptance but also hope through Jesus.

SESSION 2: Forgiveness

It's been said that not forgiving another person is like drinking poison and hoping the other person dies. Refusing to forgive is a never–ending battle that leads to bitterness and keeps divorced women in bondage to anger and resentment. When deep hurt happens, it takes significant energy, along with God's supernatural power and love, to choose forgiveness. This session focuses on one of the most difficult struggles for women of divorce; forgiveness - not only toward the other person, but also themselves.

SESSION 3: The Loneliness Giant

The agony of being alone and the accompanying feelings of loneliness haunt many women in the midst of divorce. Moments like these are almost unbearable: like sitting alone at church, sitting alone at dinner or sitting alone at home when everyone else is out enjoying themselves. This session helps women cope with the Giant of Loneliness and encourages them to trust Jesus to help them slay that giant.

SESSION 4: The Real Enemy: Lies Women Believe

Women struggle with destructive thoughts: “You’re not worthy.” “No one will ever want you.” “Look how low you’ve fallen.” “What reason do you have to live?” This session focuses on a woman’s vulnerability, how they can stand against the evil one’s plot and how they can learn confidence in the assurance they are precious and have value in the eyes of God.

SESSION 5: Respect Yourself

Divorce shatters a woman’s world and can distort how she sees herself. Her world has changed. Her role has changed. Her life has changed. This time of vulnerability, when she feels so low, can cause her to be swept off her feet by the first man who pays attention to her. This session helps each woman learn how to better care for herself and protect herself from predators. She will be given hope to recover her self-respect and find her identity in Christ.

SESSION 6: Sexless and Single: Sex and Dating

Our brains are hardwired from birth to need intimacy. Expert authors Dr. Catherine Hart Weber (Secrets of Eve: Understanding the Secrets of Female Sexuality) and Dr. Tim Alan Gardner (Sacred Sex) use biblical principles to provide counsel, insight and the parameters concerning God-given sexuality.

SESSION 7: Beyond Shame and Guilt

It is common for women of divorce to become enslaved to shame and guilt, which distances them from God and diverts them from following God’s purpose for them. Dale Dunnewold, counselor and president of Grace Ministries, has counseled hundreds of women and guides viewers on the path from shame and guilt to joy and confidence in the Lord through understanding His ever-available mercies, grace and forgiveness.

SESSION 8: Discovering a Whole New You

God is in the business of creating something wonderful out of the ashes of our lives. Four women tell their stories of moving from brokenness to wholeness. Each woman will discover that no matter how devastating her life story, when she will allow God to rebuild the pieces, He will tenderly show her who she is in Christ. She will live…She will love…She will laugh…again.

Other ways the church can assist is through a benevolence fund or sponsorship for those who cannot afford the cost of the participant guide. This allows everyone to have the opportunity to be a part of this important ministry offered through your church.

Why is this focused on women? What about the men?

The Live Again series is for women only because it has been designed by women to focus on women’s needs, as they heal differently than men. It provides a safe environment allowing women to approach the healing process and share topics honestly and openly which can be uncomfortable in the presence of men: for example, sexuality, dating, loneliness, etc. This important distinction leads to a faster healing process. There are other divorce recovery programs that can address men’s needs.
